My Verse Can Allege No Love

"People destined to meet will do so, apparently by chance, at precisely the right moment."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Such is the aim of the street photographer; destiny necessarily becomes a moment-to-moment opportunity. Stripped of its cosmic preponderance, destiny is returned to the sidewalks, alleys, homes, and public spaces the street photographer delights in.

Working within a discipline so heavily reliant on chance demanded a different sort of organizational approach for me. For years, I've tried to sub-categorize my pictures into series based on geography, time periods, and tenuous thematic arrangements. But the pictures were never premeditated beyond a few moments prior, and I had no greater goal than to make the picture itself; no assignment to fulfill, no real agenda to push. It occurred to me that the text should be generated and deployed in a similar way. I utilized a number of different text generators to formulate words and phrases that resonated with me, and that provided additional flavor and context for my pictures.

These photos were all taken between 2013 and 2018 across the United States.
