How Deep are the Tar Pits?

Before moving to California, I visited over the course of a few years, swollen with notions of what the state should be, informed by hearsay and my own thoughts about how the Hollywood machine operates. I think of this series almost as an inverse of "100 ft. Above Sea Level" - in that series, I attempted to illustrate the nuances and humanity in Florida, contrary to so much public perception. In "How Deep are the Tar Pits?" I'm actively discovering the surprising amount of compassion Southern California is capable of.

The work here is an active refutation of the prejudices I had built up while in film school about what the entertainment capital of the world would be like.
